The reason I am writing about cold weather is because the NFL is in a game where they are trying to get owners to build new stadiums to increase revenues for each individual team. If a new stadium is built, there is an increased chance that city may host a Super Bowl. The next two Super Bowls are in cold weather cities. Next year's game be in a dome, Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Field, a new stadium completed in 2008.
However, in two years, the Super Bowl will be held at a new outdoor field used jointly by the New York Jets and New York Giants. This was a controversial decision when the Super Bowl was granted to New York because it will be an outdoor football game where the elements could play a significant factor in the outcome. If the game is a success, we may see more colder weather sites hosting the Super Bowl.

Historically, cities such as Miami, Tampa, New Orleans, and Los Angeles have hosted many Super Bowls.
Has there ever been an outdoor Superbowl during a blizzard?
ReplyDeletethere have been Super Bowls in many cold weather cities, but they have all been in domes. The coldest outdoor temp was Super Bowl 16 (early 1980s) in Detroit, but that was inside at the Silverdome. I think the coldest weather outdoor Super Bowl was in Palo Alto, CA. The weather wasn't bad though.
